The president’s advisor on women's rights, Harriette Chiggai, has called upon the private sector to join the fight against gender-based violence, saying it remains a big hindrance in realizing women’s full potential.
Speaking at a high–level leaders’ breakfast meeting in Nairobi, bringing together key industry players involved in championing women’s rights empowerment, Chiggai said there was a clear need for concerted efforts in combating gender based violence, thus, the need to form partnerships for a bold and inclusive future.
According to Chiggai, it is time to create safe homes and safe spaces, not just at home, but also at work places and through this, the private sector would be plugging into an ecosystem that aims at zero-rating GBV.

Additionally, the President’s Advisor on National Security, Ambassador Monica, raised concern over the rising cases of gender-based violence, painting a grim picture of the situation women face within their own homes.
She noted that statistics indicate nearly 300,000 women were under serious threat during the COVID-19 period, underscoring how homes traditionally considered safe spaces have increasingly become sites of violence and abuse.
Ambassador Juma either emphasized the urgent need to strengthen protection measures for women, calling for the recruitment of more female officers who, she said, would play a critical role in combating gender-based violence and ensuring victims receive the support they need.
The meeting also brought onboard financial institutions that provide financial literacy to women, as well as a call for women to access finances to better their businesses.
